I feel like writing down the most basic five things is a little drab. So I’m taking a minute to think a little deeper on the subject, to the things that are a little less automatic than what I would usually say.
- Lip Sync to a favourite playlist. I’m not a great singer, but it can be fun to pretend I am. It can also be quite cathartic depending on the song choice.
- Research rabbit hole. Even if I’m not looking for something particular, I like the unexpected things I can dig up by wandering through the internet, Wikipedia especially.
- Movie nitpicking. Movies are fun in general, but I like to sit down with a friend for a familiar movie that we can just mercilessly nag over petty details. It’s fun to take nothing seriously and refuse to suspend disbelief sometimes.
- Make faces. No, really. Sometimes I just want to experiment with what expressions I can make. I tend to do it when I’m washing my hands, but occasionally I do it when I’m not even in front of a mirror. It can be highlighting some thought I’m having or to distract myself from thoughts I don’t want to be having.
- Nothing. If I just can’t make up my mind as to what I want to be doing, I find that the choice of “nothing” actually works quite well. Sitting or lying down and having no other objective isn’t fun in the general sense, but it can take off a lot of pressure. Doing enough nothing so that I can finally make decisions is highly enjoyable.
